The SAPIENS service provides online access to a number of Scottish academic and cultural periodicals. SAPIENS delivers a range of publications using a variety of business models. For this reason the service offers a mix of access controlled and open access publications. If SAPIENS offers a publication which is of interest please contact Centre for Digital Library Research(cdlr@strath.ac.uk) to discuss pricing and arrange access.

Background

The service is a development of the SAPIENS project which aims to assist small-scale Scottish publishers of arts and humanities periodicals to enter the online environment. There were various reasons for the establishment of the project;

The project has worked with a number of publishers to explore the issues surrounding electronic publishing. It established a pilot demonstration service delivering sample content, which has evolved into the current operational service.
